Help shape North East Link

This stage of community engagement for North East Link has finished. We'll be reporting back to communities what we heard in October. If you have questions about the project you call us on 1800 941 191 or write to us at community@northeastlink.vic.gov.au

A key part of getting North East Link right is to define from the very beginning what the new link needs to achieve and what we need to work to protect.

These goals can then be used to guide the selection of a preferred corridor.

You can get involved by telling us what you want North East Link to achieve and whether the project objectives and principles we've developed so far are missing anything that's important to you.

Our objectives for North East Link are to

  • Connect more businesses to workers, customers and other businesses
  • Connect more people to jobs and education
  • Make freight move more efficiently
  • Make neighbourhoods in the north-east safer and easier to get around including by reducing congestion, getting trucks off residential roads, improving public transport services and improving walking and cycling connections.

Our principles for North East Link are to

  • Minimise impacts on communities including by fitting in with local character and values, maintaining or improving access to open spaces and community facilities, minimising land acquisition and making sure some communities don't benefit at the significant disadvantage of others
  • Minimise impacts on the environment and places with cultural or heritage value, including by minimising visual, noise and air impacts
  • Minimise impacts during construction including disruptions to the existing road network, public transport services, how visible the work could be and changes to power, gas, water and sewer services
  • Use resources efficiently including so that any money we spend now will deliver good returns in the future and that we prepare for new technologies like driverless cars.

Through our community survey, we've heard a little bit about which areas matter to you. You can read more about what we've heard so far here.

We now want to make sure we've heard you properly, understand more about what matters to you and why, and if we've missed anything that's important to you.
